How Conversational Hypnosis Can Make Your Life Better

by Lee Dobbins

The word 'hypnosis' usually conjures up images of a comedian persuading people to embarrass themselves in front of the audience, or a doctor with a swinging pocket watch. While this type of hypnosis is useful, there are many other uses of hypnosis, including one that you can use to persuade people without them even realizing you are doing it. It's called conversational hypnosis, and even you can use it to convince people of anything you want!

This is actually a technique that's been in use for ages, in fact, you may have experienced it yourself and never even known it. This technique does not involve a swinging pocket watch or any overt gestures, it simply uses different words, voice tones and other techniques that are normal during conversation.

Luckily, you don't have to be a doctor, magician or comedian to make use of conversational hypnosis, it's actually just simply using the art of persuasion, along with some key techniques, to bypass your subjects critical mind and get them to agree with your ideas. We do this every day when we try to get someone to 'see things our way' or ask them for a favor. The difference is that if you knew the techniques of conversational hypnosis you would get them to agree a lot more often!

Conversational or covert hypnosis can be used to persuade crowds or in one on one conversations. It uses intonations, language patterns and vocal timing to influence others. Anyone can learn it and can adapt it for use in a variety of situations. If you are on the receiving end of this type of hypnosis, you might find yourself engrossed in what the speaker has to say and hypnotized, if you will, to agree with him easily changing your opinion from what it may have been before.

In fact, perhaps the most interesting use was by Dr. Milton Erikson who used conversational hypnosis to help his patients in the 1940's and 1950's because hypnosis itself was banned. However, someone let the cat out of the bag and Dr Erikson was called to a disciplinary hearing by the American Medical Association. Ironically, he used his powers of conversational hypnosis on the board and instead of revoking his license, all the charges against him were dropped and the next year the AMA reversed their ban on hypnosis allowing all doctors to use it!

Conversational hypnosis is not something that should be used to take advantage of people and, in fact, it cannot since your subconscious mind will never let you be harmed or allow you to do something against your will. In fact, in can be a great tool for you to better your life and get what you want - whether it is getting someone to buy a product from you, swaying your spouse to see your point of view on a matter or getting your boss to agree with your ideas. This very powerful hypnotic tool can be learned and used to make your life, and perhaps even the life of those around you better!
